Watch the Sun Exposure as Summer Begins

by Nod on 24/05/2009

Memorial Day is the best part of kicking off the summer, but I’ve been burned enough times now to be careful. Whether you’re heading to the beach or planning a cookout in the park, be careful how much sun you get. I know all of us have had experiences where we go relax at the beach or pool and end up feeling exhausted afterward. Even though you just sit there doing nothing, the amount of sun our skin gets actually makes our bodies work harder to keep cool and repair UV damage. The result? Feeling more tired than when we first went out.

So stay hydrated, wear sun screen and allow time for rest out of the sun so your body can maintain enough energy for the rest of the day. I know I’m anxious to get a little sun on these white legs, but I’m not eager for the pink look either. Plus, a sunburn not only zaps your energy, but interrupts sleep because you’re too warm, leaving you exhausted for work the next day.

Have fun with your friends and family, but be careful and keep quality sleep in mind this summer!
